Happy Summer!

Obviously we have been too busy to blog and that is a good thing. We love to be busy. We greatly appreciate your referrals and we grow through each referral. Thank you for supporting our small business from all of us here at Allentown Chiropractic Center, P.C.

We will take a quick break from our busyness to celebrate 2017! As of the spring of this year, Dr. Smarch has expanded his hours. Our new hours for Dr. Smarch include Mondays and Fridays from 1PM-5PM. He is here his normal Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30AM-12Noon, 2-4PM, and 5:30-8PM plus Saturdays 9AM-12Noon. Dr. Kulik continues to work his normal days and hours of Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 8:30AM-12Noon, 2-4PM, and 5:30-8PM. We try to maintain our website and keep the hours listed up to date. When we have any change in the schedule or we need to close for an emergency such as weather, we will typically post to Facebook. You do not need to have an account to view our Facebook page. Just go to our link or go to our website, scroll down, and click on the link for our Facebook page. A friendly reminder: Remember when you schedule to keep your appointment or call us immediately to reschedule it if you know you cannot make it. Time is reserved for you and when you miss we could often have used that time for another patient needing that time.

Be sure to take good care of yourself and your spinal health this summer. With traveling and physical activities our spines may even need an extra check up. We love to get adjusted before and after traveling. Think about the heavy lifting when it comes to luggage and gear as well as new sleeping conditions.

While traveling, we highly suggest not to overpack. Keep your luggage light. Traveling with just a carry-on can save both your back as well as most often your money when traveling on airplanes. Body strain while traveling can sometimes even ruin a vacation. Patients are both joking and serious when they ask if their chiropractor can accompany them on trips or make housecalls.

New sleeping conditions including mattresses, pillows, or even sleeping on sofas or other less than ideal conditions can also cause your spine and musculoskeletal system to be unhappy. Definitely stretch in the morning. If the pillows are cheap or broken down, consider using a rolled up towel underneath for better stability or travel with your pillow. You probably only need to roll the towel approximately three rolls. Some of us and our patients love our ChiroFlow pillows that we sell in our office so much that we do travel with our pillows.

While traveling we also may eat differently than our norm. This means our gastrointestinal system may be off as well. Our nervous system that runs through our spine controls all other systems including the gastrointestinal system. Having a healthy, subluxation free spine is key for traveling comfortably in many regards. We do suggest taking a probiotic daily, but taking them on vacation is a great idea, too.

Sunscreen is controversial at times. Dermatologists, sunscreen companies, and the media all do the public a disservice by recommending avoiding the sun or slathering on sunscreen at all times. Vitamin D deficiencies cause a number of health conditions and cancers. Please whenever you do choose a sunscreen, please stay away from harsh chemicals. Spray on sunscreens sound like a great idea, but the toxins that can be inhaled are dangerous to our health. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are the two most often used in spray-on sunscreen products and toxic when inhaled. When choosing a sunscreen, the safest choice is a lotion or cream with zinc oxide to protect your skin from UVA rays. Sunscreen selection is very important. We have seen photos where young children have severe burns due to sunscreens. There are organic, chemical free brands and sunscreens gentle enough for babies. Read the ingredients and the warnings. It breaks our hearts to hear of young ones enduring pain and burns due to sunscreen companies making such products that would cause much more harm than a little sun. Remember that Vitamin D is vital and getting a little sun is good for us. Research your sunscreen brands to find one that is best for you and your loved ones. When going outside for short times, you might even want to go all natural and avoid the sunscreen. Absorbing your daily dosage of Vitamin D will benefit your health in the long run.

With summer here, we hope that you enjoy it to the fullest! Stay healthy and be sure to schedule your appointments for not only yourself, but your whole family. As I type this blog this morning, we have a beautiful family of four all getting adjusted before leaving on vacation. Chiropractic is for all ages and the health benefits are plenty. We warmly welcome new patients and appreciate your referrals. Feel free to always share our posts and blogs. Happy Summer!
